Marin Rowing
| The Marin Rowing Association is located at 50 Drakes Landing in Greenbrae, directly west of highway 101. Membership is inexpensive with a one time fee, then monthly dues to cover use of the indoor gym and of course the boats. The building was rebuilt in 2000 with generous donations from various groups of rowers and local businesses. There are locker rooms and showers on the first floor, with a large weight room and rowing (Erg) machines above. The views from the Ergs on the waterside are particularly outstanding. For more information, visit them, or call 415.461.1431. I took my first row recently, thanks to my friend Mark, who was the only one of us who actually knew what he was doing. You can too, just give it a try. It was easy. |

| First stop, the building itself, which is off 101 in the distance. There is plenty of free parking. |

| The trophy case in the lobby. You can just barely see the one I earned in 2006, which says "Only Tipped Over Once". |

| Start with a good warm up with the Erg's on the second level. I think they call them that, because everytime I pulled on the rope, I went "Erg". |

| A local film crew was there that day, documenting the visit from Mark Volkmann, the famous Olympic rowing champion. |

| Next stop, pick out a boat, uh, "shell". The club has lots of them to use for members. |

| Take the boat down to the water, just a few steps away. |

| The docks are often full of high school rowing teams, like on this day. It's great to see how popular the sport has become, especially with the kids. |

| Mark picked a two-man boat for today, as he had me to lug around in back. Right about here, I'm getting worried as I can't see the engine. |

| It helps to have a licensed Dock Assistant, as we did that day with my daughter Brooke, shown here about to toss the oars into the water. |

| Strap your socks into these built-in shoes that come with the boat and have at it. I tried to take the shoes with me at the end, but was stopped by Police. |

| This is what a successful rower looks like. My pictures didn't turn out as the camera somehow wound up at the bottom of the creek. |

| The Girl's Team went hauling by, clearly to show off and let us know we stank. I think I'll stick to running. |
